8 Things That Happen After Doing A Plank Every Day



People are just sick and tired of trying to go to the gym every day. It seems impossible to find the time to go to the gym consistently, especially if you're a parent that works. One type of exercise has steadily risen in popularity due to the fact that you can do it basically anywhere. The plank is a body weight exercise that has been shown to work a wide range of muscles in the body, especially your core. The only thing you need to perform a plank is your own body!
Here are eight things that happen to your body when you plank every day. 

1. You will get some serious core definition and strength. In other words, you'll lose those pesky love handles that have followed you around for so long. 

Almost the entire core is activated by the plank workout. Your oblique muscles, as well as your abdominal muscles, will be worked the most. Over time, a proper diet along with regular planking will tighten up that tummy. 

2. Burn more calories all of the time!

Over time, you will start building some extra muscle and, as a result, burn more calories when you're not even moving. Your body is constantly burning calories (resting metabolism), and muscle can make the calories burn off faster. 

3. Hunched over at your desk all day? Well, planks can improve posture!

As a byproduct of that strong core, you will also be able to better hold yourself up straight. Many of the muscles you will be strengthening are constantly working to keep your body upright. 

4. Your balance will improve

Similar to the effects of planks on your posture, your overall balance will improve. So now you can stay firmly on your feet when you're juggling all of those kids and their sports equipment.

5. Flexibility. 

One benefit of the plank is that your body is fully extended during the exercise. This stretching can promote flexibility in many other types of movements. Your friends are going to lose it when you do this for them the first time...

6. Your back will become stronger.

A strong back can protect you from unnecessary strain.  The plank also engages muscles in your upper back. 

7. Strengthen bones and joints. 

Any weight-bearing exercise that is done over time will benefit your bone and joint health. It's not just your muscles that are benefiting! 

8. You'll be bustling with energy. 

Again, this is a benefit of many exercises, including planks. You know that feeling of complete exhaustion when the kids are finally asleep? Now you'll actually have some energy to do something fun for yourself!
